We recently received two starving, orphaned black bear cubs from Idaho Fish and Game.
This weekend, they brought us a third.
And there are likely more on the way. This year’s drought has stripped the landscape of the berries, forage, and water that bear families depend on. As we head into fall and early winter, more cubs will be left to fend for themselves—which means more calls to Fish and Game, and more orphaned bears being delivered to Earthfire. We are one of only two facilities licensed in Idaho to care for black bear cubs, and the only one with overwintering experience, so this means we are facing any number of orphaned bears.

Our ability to meet the needs of our local black bear population has become paramount.
We are facing an unprecedented situation that is stretching our resources and capacity, and we urgently need additional support to respond effectively.
Because how can we say no? We can’t.
So this month, we are asking for your help. Plainly and directly, because the urgency to provide a safe haven for these bears is growing daily, and without your aid, meeting that need is beyond our current means.
Help us help them.
Any gift goes directly toward the cost of caring for these orphaned cubs and building the enclosures that will keep them safe. While we are still determining the full scope of expenses, we anticipate tens of thousands of dollars in additional costs to address both immediate and ongoing needs. Please help any way you can.
