Sanctuary Map
We started Earthfire by building a bridge to reach the 40 acres we had purchased, put in a well, phone and electricity, and began building with hope, love, labor and donated materials. Then supporters joined in and we are now halfway to our goal.
Bear Complex and Gardens
With an immense amount of labor and lovingly donated funds we hand-welded 4 double enclosures for each bear to ensure their safety, and a pool to ensure their pleasure. Now we need to put in dens, private gardens with trees, rocks, logs, and irrigation.
We need your help!
- 4 bear gardens $7500 each
- hydraulic gates $13,000
- 3 dens and interconnecting doors $4000
Wildlife Garden
The Wildlife Garden is where all the animals play until we can build more gardens. It is almost completed and now needs a few more trees, but most importantly, a gardener to maintain the plantings and joyous animal decimations.
We need your help!
- gardener $7500
- evergreen trees $5000
- gardening equipment $5000
Wendy’s Circle
Built to honor Wendy Smith, a young mother who passed away leaving a wish that we preserve wildlife for her children and all children, this storytelling circle is adjacent to the Wildlife Garden so that all programs have animals playing nearby. Almost finished, it will be a magical area with pools and a secret passageway behind a waterfall.
We need your help!
- landscaping and irrigation system $5000
- sculpting magic passage, benches $5000
- pump, pond liner $2500
Meeting and Retreat Space
At last we have an indoor area for programs protected from the elements! A spacious 30 foot diameter yurt sturdy enough for Idaho winters. Next we need to furnish it. After that we are planning 4 additional small yurts for retreat housing.
We need your help!
- floor, bathroom, kitchen, furniture $12,000
- deck, railing, benches $5000
- heating system $3000
Cat Complex
The kitties, large and small, need their own area and garden made just for cats where they can drip elegantly off platforms; climb trees to view the world from on high, and sleep in cozy dens.
We need your help!
- fencing, platform, trees, dens, stream $20,000
Barn
We have no place for storage against the Idaho winters, nor a workshop for maintenance. The barn will also include an apartment for the permanent on-the grounds staff we need and a protected area for our wild burros.
We need your help!
- plans, construction $175,000
Welcome Arch
To make the most of their experience, it is important that visitors are helped to take a moment before entering the property to make the transition to the deep experience they will have at Earthfire. One of our board members suggested the arch include the words “Reverence, All Ye Who Enter Here.”
We need your help!
- construction $2000
Small Animal Complex and Garden
Though they have spacious enclosures, the small animals need their own place to play, partly because they are such escape artists they will find places to get through that no self respecting bear or wolf would consider. Plus they are tired of sharing.
We need your help!
- fencing $4000
- trees and bushes $2500
- ponds pond liner $2000
Wolf Complex
We have a makeshift roof on the wolves for now that doesn’t function very well — a roof over the entire complex will protect them from the elements. They would also enjoy improved leaping platforms and den boxes.
We need your help!
- plans, construction $60,000
Hospital
Currently the hospital is our small living room which can (and has) accommodated at various times wolves, badgers, lynx, and chickens, but not possible for bears and cougars. We need a hospital for emergency first aid and convalescence, a heated place made more important by the long cold winters.
Need: $60,000
Infirmary
Currently the infirmary is our small living room which can (and has) accommodated at various times wolves, badgers, lynx, and chickens, but not possible for bears and cougars. We need an infirmary for emergency first aid and convalescence, a heated place made more important by the long cold winters.
We need your help!
- plans, construction $60,000
Home
We live in an 18′x30′ log cabin right next to the animals, that also serves as a partial office and animal hospital. It gets quite “cozy,” especially in the long dark winter months!
Office
The 14×20′ log cabin that serves as the office is the result of dozens of donations: the logs; floor; roof; windows; doors; lighting; furniture; office equipment; plumbing, all put together by many caring hands.
