Here in the north the days shorten and the nights lengthen almost perceptibly every day. All is still and quiet and dormant. It is a time for reflection and meditation. Bears sleep and people dream in these long winter nights.
In addition to retreat sessions, we arrange conversations of interest to artists and media makers; educators; business, non-profit and community leaders; ecologists and ethicists;
and spiritual and wellness leaders.
The planning for these are conversations in themselves; rich, creative brainstorming sessions. They begin with a meditation and usually include a forest walk or animal visit as well as music, to ensure that we are planning from a deep true creative place.
You are invited to apply to participate in these informal conversations. Call, e-mail or fill out the retreat form.

May 20, 2010 Digital Storytelling Workshop with Leslie Rule
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qkWODdH2Bw
Earthfire Institute is teaming up with Leslie Rule, Director of Digital Storytelling for KQED Public Television in San Francisco, in a unique workshop in digital story telling at Earthfire Institute this May. This is a fabulous opportunity to produce a finished story to post on the web while working with the rescued native wildlife at Earthfire Institute. Participants will learn how to use audio and video capture and editing software, upload videos to YouTube and images to Flickr, and leave the workshop with a complete digital story on CD or DVD, as well as source materials.
The goals of these workshops is to create new models of understanding and appreciation of nature by connecting people to wildlife and the natural world using new media tools and technologies. This will then enable people to share their stories of personal connection to animals and the natural world digitally.

Jun 19, 2010 Wildlife Communication Retreat led by PENELOPE SMITH, animal communication specialist
Join us for a very special one-of-a-kind weekend animal communication retreat with Penelope Smith and the hand-raised, dearly loved creatures of the Earthfire Institute family—grizzly and black bears, wolves and cougars, bobcats and lynx, coyotes, foxes, badger, buffalo, as well as a flock of happy chickens.
It is recommended that participants have taken a Basic Course in telepathic communication with animals or studied basic books and recordings on the subject but all who wish to deepen their connection with Nature and are interested in communicating with wild animals are welcome.
The retreat will take place from 9-4 on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening, we will have a campfire and shamanic healing drumming circle in the Wildlife Garden.
On Sunday afternoon, after the retreat at 4:30 there will be a special photo shoot with naturalist and wildlife photographer, Jean Simpson, for a small group of interested participants. This is an opportunity to apply your new communication skills from the retreat to capture photos that reflect the soul of the animal.
Jul 24, 2010 Family Retreat at Earthfire
A rare opportunity for a few families to share a magical experience meeting native wildlife in Earthfire's intimate Wildlife Garden, developing a personal relationship with the animals and carrying the seeds of stewardship into the future. Through active observation, stories, questions and answers, families can ponder the important questions facing humans and the environment today with wildlife present, adding a poignancy and reality to the discussions. Participants will be able to express their experiences through writing, drawing, song or dance, which will be shared around an evening campfire with storytelling and a light supper. Please contact us for more details.
