The Release – Vittoria’s Story
I was passed a torch, so to speak. A torch in the form of a tiny tuft of lemon yellow fuzz and feathers. The mission was simple; take the gosling to the Green Belt in Idaho Falls; find him new>
“He was found fluttering in a panic among the sagebrush, a soft yellow and grey ball of fluff. Where were his parents? His brothers and sisters? How did he get there, in the middle of a vast sagebrush field? A strange and lonely place for a baby water bird. It was very hard to give him up, that sweet soft little thing trilling contently, burrowing into my neck and hair. I would have loved to develop a relationship, learn deeply about wild geese, have a friendship and companionship that would have enriched my life. But it was not my place. He had a right to be with his own kind, to take his chance in the wild, developing his goose-ness to the fullest extent possible. I had a family crisis and had to leave. With a kiss I handed the baton to Vittoria at Earthfire to follow up on a wild-goose parent adoption. To be continued…”
